National Grid procuring for £1bn framework for overhead lines in both UK and US | New Civil Engineer

National Grid is procuring for a £1bn framework for overhead lines and their associated infrastructure to be constructed in both the UK and US.

With the tender, National Grid is seeking to procure the nominated equipment and, for certain lots, opportunities to cover aligned installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance activities.

The utility company is seeking to appoint suppliers with capacity and capability to deliver the infrastructure where the contractual arrangement will comprise of UK and US framework agreements with call off contracts.

The total value of all the lots is £1,023,924,704.

UK lots

Lot 1 is for the supply of phase conductors for use in the UK, including electricity distribution, control apparatus, insulated wire and cable for a total price of £666M.

Lot 2 is for the supply of fiber optic cable and optical ground wire for use in the UK at a value of £20M.

Lot 3 is for the supply of aerial bundled cables for use in the UK at a price of £15.2M.

Lot 4 is for the supply of polymeric insulators, including electricity distribution and overhead electrical equipment, for the UK at a price of £31.8M.

Lot 5 is for the supply of glass insulators for use in the UK at price of £14.7M.

Lot 6 will see the contractor supply porcelain insulators for use in the UK for a sum of £2.5M.

Lot 7 includes the supply of fitting and hardware for use in the UK, including electricity distribution, insulated cable junctions, insulated cable joints, insulated cable glands and insulating fittings for a total sum of £58.2M.

US Lots

Lot 8 is for the supply of phase conductors for use in the US at a total value of $209.9M (£160M).

Lot 9 includes the supply of fiber optic cable and optical ground wire for use in the US for $13.4M (£10.2M).

Lot 10 is for the supply of insulated cables for use in the US for £10.2M.

Lot 11 is for the supply of composite insulators for use in the US for £25.1M.

Lot 12 includes the supply of glass insulators for use in the US for £20.3M.

Lot 13 includes the supply of porcelain insulators for use in the US for a contract worth £7.2M.

National Grid stated it reserves the right to sub-divide a lot, or to award part of a lot, where a supplier is not able to supply all the equipment within a lot.

All contracts are for a duration of five years with options for extending for a maximum of 36 months in one or more renewal periods. The duration of call-off contracts may be longer than eight years and may overlap and extend beyond the end of the main framework agreements, National Grid said.

Those wishing to apply to the contracts have until 3pm on 4 November with the estimated date of dispatch of invitations to tender being 6 December.
